Stormwater
SR-826 / SR-836 Interchange / Palmetto Expressway Section 5
SCOPE OF WORK
State Road (SR) 826 (Palmetto Expressway) and SR-836 (Dolphin Expressway) is a major limited access, urban freeways connecting the north, south, east and west of Miami-Dade County. These expressways consist of 16.7 miles of north-south corridor and 7.0 miles of east-west extension with interchanges at major urban arterial crossings.
The intent of this Stormwater Management Master Plan was to identify the drainage systems within the project limits, existing drainage conditions, water quality and quantity analysis of the proposed drainage system, detailed calculations, and a final hydraulic analysis. The SR-826/SR-836 Interchange Project consisted of approximately 5.4 miles of corridor improvements including pavement resurfacing, bridge rehabilitation, roadway reconstruction, and canal relocation.
The Interchange Project is entirely within the South Florida Water Management District’s (SFWMD) C-4 Canal Basin and ultimately discharges into the C-4 (Tamiami) Canal. The stormwater conveyance of the expressway corridor was accomplished through 5 existing secondary canal systems. These secondary canal systems are the Fontainebleau Canal, North Line Canal, Venetian Canal, Airport Canal, Lake Joanne, and Blue Lagoon Lake; these ultimately discharge to the C-4 Canal. The Stormwater Management Report was prepared as part of the Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) modification package to be submitted to SFWMD and the Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM).
